As prominent Builders in Exmouth, Exeter and the wider Devon area, we are always delighted to hear of large scale developments in the area. Therefore, we are pleased to report that Amazon has confirmed a new 100,000 sq. ft plot close to Cranbrook and our headquarters!
It has been rumoured for months that the new site was going to be occupied by Amazon, but the retailer had previously refused to entertain the idea. Now, however, they have confirmed that it will indeed be them who will operate from this large plot.
With Torbay Council as the land owners, and Amazon as the applicant, the £15m project has been given the green light. Amazon’s new warehouse will neighbour the Lidl distribution warehouse on the Exeter Gateway site, next to the M5 and A30, and the giant online retailer plan to be moved in by the Autumn.
Growth & Opportunity
With the confirmation of such a financially beneficial development for the area, our Exeter and Exmouth builders are happy to announce the projected impact. The move is likely to create somewhere between 1,530 – 1,817 jobs; yet another welcome figure given the volume of new homes and new builds currently being built or that are in the planning stages right now.
We recently brought you up to speed with another progressive local development, in our article Builders in Exeter Prepare for 10,000 New Homes. While a mass of new jobs will be created to accompany the creation of more homes, Devon can expect to see huge financial gains from Amazon’s new venture. It is forecasted that this development will generate between £90m and £105m for the regional economy.
CPM builders in Devon are excited to see the level of impact that this synchronisation of residential and commercial developments can have.
What Does Amazon Have To Say?

Amazon has commented on the development, outlining the logistics of the move. A spokesperson said, as reported by Radio Exe: “Amazon is to relocate its delivery station in Heron Road to a larger 100,000 sq foot purpose built facility in Exeter Gateway later this year, to meet increasing customer demand and expand the area it covers.”
They continued, “Amazon Logistics is helping independent local delivery companies to grow their businesses and adds capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery network, to provide the fast and reliable delivery Amazon customers love and trust. Currently, six delivery companies provide services to Amazon in Exeter but this will increase over time to more than a dozen.
“As well as meeting increasing customers demand, the new delivery station will also deliver to customers in parts of Dorset and Somerset, currently served by Amazon’s delivery station in Bristol. Amazon continues to invest in its transportation infrastructure and other innovative ways to expand its supply chain capacity and speed up deliveries for customers.”
